Frequently asked questions
Good to know,
before we begin.
Everything you might want to ask about quotes, pricing, our schedule and how we work — so you know exactly what to expect from Iris Lawn & Garden Care.
1 Getting started & quotes
Do you offer free quotes?
Yes — every quote is a free, no-obligation on-site visit. The quickest way to start is our online booking form, or call or text us (a text is fastest).
Which areas do you service?
North-eastern and eastern Adelaide — Norwood, Burnside, Magill, Modbury, Golden Grove, Paradise, Athelstone, Klemzig, Unley Park and surrounding suburbs. Not sure if you're in range? Just ask.
How soon can you come out for a quote?
Usually within a few days for clean-ups and regular-maintenance quotes, and within the week for landscaping. We typically do quote visits early morning or later afternoon.
Can you quote from photos instead of visiting?
For some one-off jobs we can give a rough ballpark from photos, but most quotes need a quick on-site look so we get it right.
2 What we do — and what we don't
What services do you offer?
Soft landscaping (design through to install), fortnightly maintenance, lawn renovation, mulching & soil conditioning, seasonal treatments, irrigation, and yard, pre-sale & rental clean-ups.
Do you do one-off or casual mowing?
We can do a one-off mow to bring a property back under control — but that's usually part of a clean-up, and most clients then move onto our regular fortnightly maintenance. We don't offer ongoing, casual one-off-only mowing.
Do you do stump grinding, rubbish removal or tree work?
Yes — we handle stump grinding, rubbish removal and medium tree lopping. We just like to take a look on site with Alex first to make sure it's within our scope.
What don't you do?
We focus on soft landscaping & garden care, so we don't take on large paving jobs or retaining walls over half a metre — we'll gladly refer you to a specialist for those.
3 Pricing & payment
How do you charge — hourly or per job?
We're a fixed-price service, so you'll always know the cost up front with no surprise charges if a job turns out trickier than planned. It also keeps our team focused on doing a great job rather than watching the clock.
Is there a minimum charge?
Yes — our minimum for regular maintenance is $99 per fortnightly visit.
Do you require a deposit?
Yes — landscaping jobs, end-of-lease clean-ups and yard clean-ups require a 50% deposit to book in, with the balance on completion.
How and when do I pay?
You're invoiced after each visit, and we text you the day before as a reminder we're coming. Pay by credit card or bank transfer — or securely save your card through our ServiceM8 system (powered by Stripe) to be charged automatically each visit, so you never have to think about invoices.
4 Your schedule
How often do you visit?
Fortnightly is our only regular schedule — it's the sweet spot for a healthy lawn and consistent care.
Can I get weekly or monthly visits?
Fortnightly is standard. Weekly can be discussed if your garden needs it — but we don't offer monthly or less often, as that becomes a clean-up rather than upkeep.
Will I know when you're coming?
Yes — we send you a reminder text the day before every visit.
Will I get the same day each time?
Generally yes — we run set routes, so you'll have a regular day. Every now and then things shift (a staff absence, a job running over, weather, or the odd technical hiccup), but if your day changes we'll always keep you in the loop.
5 Lawn & garden care
What's included in a fortnightly visit?
Every quote is tailored to your garden, so it varies — but a typical visit covers mowing, edging, line-trimming and a tidy blow-down, plus spot-spraying weeds around the garden (paths, paving, beds and edges) to keep them down before they take hold. Pruning and hedging are included for some clients but not others, depending on your garden and what we've quoted. We also keep an eye on your plants' health and flag anything that needs attention. Treating weeds within the lawn itself is a separate lawn-care treatment (part of our seasonal lawn care, quoted and billed separately).
Do you take green waste away?
For regular fortnightly maintenance, clippings go into your green bin — it's plenty for a routine tidy, so there's no need for us to cart it away. For clean-ups and larger jobs we do take all the green waste away, and that's set out in your quote.
Can you bring a tired lawn back to life?
Yes — that's our Lawn Renovation service: coring (aeration), scarifying, treating, fertilising and top dressing for thicker, healthier turf.
Do you fertilise and treat lawns?
Yes — we'll assess what your lawn needs and put together a tailored lawn care plan (seasonal fertilising, pre-emergent, in-lawn weed control and treatments). It's a separate program to your regular maintenance, since every lawn needs something a little different.
Do you give plant advice?
Absolutely — we recommend what your plants need, and we know how to structure and pair plant types to suit your space and the style you're after.
6 On the day & access
Do I need to be home?
No, as long as we can access the garden — an unlocked side gate or a gate code is perfect.
What about locked gates or pets?
Please leave gates accessible so we can get in. We'd prefer pets to be secured away while we work, but we're happy to work around them too — as long as they're friendly, relaxed and not distressed by the equipment.
What happens if it rains?
We work through light rain; in heavy weather we'll reschedule you to the next available slot and let you know.
Will it be the same person each time?
Max leads our regular maintenance rounds, backed by our wider team — so while it won't always be one of the owners, you can count on a trusted Iris Lawn & Garden Care team member who treats your garden with the same care every visit.
7 Trust, safety & insurance
Are you insured?
Yes — we carry public liability insurance up to $5 million.
Is your team police-checked?
Yes — our team is police-checked, something our DVA, NDIS and elderly clients especially appreciate.
Are you a registered business?
Yes — Iris Lawn & Garden Care is a registered, family-owned South Australian company, fully insured. ABN 34 691 331 263.
Will you respect my home and property?
Always. We know it can feel daunting letting someone into your space, so we take great care around your home, cars and windows, and treat your property with respect on every visit.
Are your products safe around kids and pets?
We use organic, low-toxicity products wherever we can. When a selective spray is genuinely needed, we apply it safely and let you know.
8 DVA & NDIS
Do you work with DVA clients?
Yes. We understand how DVA funding works and are fully insured. If you're already approved, just send through your allocation and we'll take care of the details to make sure you get the most out of your allowed funding — or give us a call and we'll talk you through it.
Do you work with NDIS participants?
Yes — for plan-managed and self-managed participants. We're fully insured, and we understand how NDIS invoicing and pricing works (including the wording invoices need), so we can take that pressure off you.
Are you a registered NDIS provider?
We don't need to be for garden maintenance, as there's no direct or personal care involved — so we work with plan-managed and self-managed participants.
9 Our approach
Is your equipment really battery-powered?
Yes — commercial Pellenc and Stihl battery equipment, charged mostly from solar. No petrol fumes around your home, a fraction of the noise, and a smaller footprint, with no compromise on the finish.
Do you use chemicals?
We use organic, low-toxicity products wherever we can, and reach for selective products only when genuinely needed — always applied safely.
Why fortnightly only?
A fortnight keeps lawns at the right height, stays ahead of weeds and growth, and lets us give every client consistent, reliable care. Monthly tends to let a garden get away — becoming a clean-up rather than upkeep.
